Watford Teen Locked Up for 22 Years After Bushey Shooting

A 19-year-old man from Watford has been slammed with a hefty 22-year jail term for two attempted murders and firearm offences following a dramatic shooting in Bushey last year.

Almamie Jawara Found Guilty Over September Shooting

Almamie Jawara, from Leveret Close, faced St Albans Crown Court on Monday 9 June where a jury convicted him for a brazen attack at Woolmerdine Court on Sunday 15 September 2024.

The court heard Jawara fired nine shots at a property, followed by two more aimed at residents who dared to investigate. Remarkably, no one was hurt in the terrifying burst of gunfire.

Major Police Manhunt Ends in Arrest

Jawara fled the scene on a Sur-Ron style electric motorbike, sparking a massive police operation involving armed units and a police helicopter. The manhunt lasted 11 days, ending with Jawara’s arrest on 26 September 2024.

The sentencing judge slammed Jawara’s “wanton disregard for the safety of others,” branding the crime as extremely dangerous.

Lap of Honour for Police Operation Thwart

The case was driven by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Thwart, targeting serious street violence and gang-related gun crimes.

“Almamie Jawara has been handed a significant sentence which reflects the utmost seriousness of these crimes and the level of risk his actions posed to the public,” said Detective Sergeant George Lewin.

“While violent crimes like this are thankfully rare, this tough jail term sends a clear message: firearms and gang crime won’t be tolerated in Hertfordshire.”

Detective Lewin praised the combined efforts of detectives, prosecutors, and support teams — including Counsel Patrick Dennis, Senior Crown Prosecutor Jan Muller, and Detective Constable Natasha Martin — for delivering justice.
