Fire Tears Through Sheenewood Flat – Multiple Rescues, Six Hospitalised
A first-floor flat in a three-storey block on Sheenewood was gutted by a ferocious blaze in the early hours of Saturday, 21 June. The London Fire Brigade sprang into action after receiving 15 emergency calls, starting at 12:46am. The fire was under control by 2:05am, but not before causing major damage and triggering dramatic rescues.
Heroes Save Residents from Flames
Two adults had already fled the burning flat before firefighters arrived and were rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
Fire crews performed a high-risk rescue using a 13.5-metre ladder to save a child wearing a fire escape hood from another flat. Two more adults and another child, also wearing escape hoods, were led to safety through an internal staircase.
All six people rescued were taken to hospital for treatment. The lifesaving fire escape hoods, introduced by the London Fire Brigade after the Grenfell Tower disaster, protected residents from toxic smoke during evacuation.
Fire Brigade Launches Investigation
The blaze’s cause remains unknown, with fire officers still probing the source of the fire.
“Crews acted swiftly and professionally to bring the fire under control and rescue multiple residents. The use of escape hoods ensured they were protected from toxic smoke while being led to safety,” said a Fire Brigade spokesperson.
