A wildfire that broke out on Dartford Heath this evening has now been brought under control, Kent Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
Earlier in the day, emergency services advised residents and travellers near the heath to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke drift from the fire. That advice has now been lifted as the blaze has been extinguished.
At the height of the incident, six fire engines, a bulk water carrier, and a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) were dispatched to the scene. Fire crews worked intensively with wildfire equipment and hose reel jets to combat the flames spreading across the heathland.
As of 7.45pm, the fire is out, and three fire engines, along with the bulk water carrier and the technical rescue team, remain at the site to dampen down hot spots and prevent reignition. Firefighters are expected to remain for the next hour or so to ensure the area is fully secured.
Initial Public Warning
The first alert was issued just after 6.30pm, urging local residents to take precautionary action due to significant smoke drift. The fire prompted a swift and scaled-up response due to its proximity to residential areas and transport routes.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is urging anyone with loved ones in the area, particularly those without internet access, to share this update to ensure their safety.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
