Storm Floris to Batter UK With Unseasonably Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Next Week

Overview

The Met Office has officially named Storm Floris, warning that it will bring unseasonably strong winds and heavy rainfall to large parts of the UK at the start of next week.

The worst of the storm is expected to impact northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland on Monday, where yellow weather warnings are now in place.

Forecasters say gusts exceeding 60mph are possible in exposed areas, along with the risk of flooding in parts of the north and west due to persistent downpours.

“Storm Floris is forecast to bring unseasonably strong winds and heavy rain, particularly to northern parts of the UK,” a Met Office spokesperson said. “The public should prepare for potential travel disruption and localised flooding.”

Areas most likely to be affected:

  • North West England
  • Southern and Central Scotland
  • Northern Ireland
  • Parts of North Wales

Commuters are being warned of possible delays on the roads and rail network, particularly during Monday morning rush hour.

What to expect:

  • Difficult driving conditions on high-sided and exposed routes
  • Risk of travel cancellations or delays
  • Possible fallen trees and power outages
  • Coastal spray and large waves in affected western regions

The Met Office urges residents to stay updated via its official channels and prepare for adverse weather impacts early next week.
