Police slam asylum seeker rumours in Barnehurst teen rape probe
Not asylum seekers, say cops
The Metropolitan Police have shattered wild online claims linking two teenage suspects in a Barnehurst rape case to asylum seekers. The disturbing attack on a teenage girl happened on Monday, 4 August. Officers stress the accused are not asylum seekers. Detective Superintendent Mel Pressley told the press:
“Despite online commentary we can confirm the suspects are not asylum seekers. We have also confirmed with partners that a nearby block of flats in Perry Street is not being used to house asylum seekers.”
Focus on victim and investigation
Detective Sup. Pressley added:
“Our focus remains on supporting the victim and establishing the circumstances of the incident.”
Police say they have identified two suspects and continue their hunt. The incident has shaken the Barnehurst community, sparking concern and calls for calm. Specialist officers are supporting the victim while extensive enquiries continue.
Public urged: stay calm, help police
Authorities warned against spreading speculation that could harm the investigation and divide the local community. They promise to issue updates as the case develops.
