The smash, which happened earlier today, has slammed traffic to a halt. Motorists are trapped in a crush stretching 6.5 miles on the approach.

Police, paramedics, and National Highways Traffic Officers are still working hard. All anti-clockwise traffic is being forced off and back on via the exit and entry slip roads at Junction 17 as the carriageway remains blocked.
