Bank Worker Jailed for Stealing £53k from Vulnerable Customers
A former bank employee has been locked up for two years after ripping off more than £53,000 from elderly and vulnerable clients.

Natasha Bassi, 23, from southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton, admitted to abusing her position to carry out 17 unauthorised transactions between May and December 2014. She targeted 14 customers, draining their accounts without permission.
Her scam only came to light when two victims noticed missing money and raised the alarm. The bank promptly alerted police, sparking a full investigation.
Justice Served at Southampton Crown Court
Bassi was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court yesterday to two years behind bars for her calculated theft.
“Bassi transferred money from the bank’s most vulnerable customers,” said Detective Constable Hannah Ellis from the Economic Crime Unit. “It would have been distressing for her victims when they discovered the money missing.”

Ellis added: “Her actions not only risked the financial wellbeing of elderly customers but also hurt Santander’s reputation. We worked closely with the bank to identify all affected and ensure full compensation.”
Hampshire Constabulary’s Economic Crime Unit vow to keep hunting down fraudsters like Bassi. “We take these crimes seriously,” Ellis stressed.
