Church door smashed in Wilton – cops hunt teens

Vandals target St Mary’s Church

Police are on the lookout after damage was done to an automatic door locking system at St Mary’s Church in Wilton. The crime took place last Thursday (22/10) sometime between 10am and 5pm. Although the church can still be locked, repairs will cost hundreds of pounds.

Community hit hard by the attack

PC Jay Greenland, from the Salisbury Area Community Policing Team, revealed the damage has badly affected locals. He said:

“This crime has had a big impact on the local community as this was a church which had remained open during the Covid-19 pandemic, but has now had to be locked up due to the damage to the automatic door locking system.

“It is also expected to prove very costly to repair the damage.”

Cops seek info on local teens

Officers are especially keen to speak to a group of young teenagers who often hang around the church. PC Greenland urged parents to come forward if their child may be involved or has witnessed anything suspicious.

“If you believe your child may either be responsible for the damage, or they may have witnessed something, then please call us.”
