M25 Shutdown in Surrey After Serious Crash
The M25 is completely closed both ways between junction 5 (Chevening Interchange) and junction 6 (Godstone Interchange) following a major collision.
Emergency Crews Swarm Scene
Surrey and Kent Police, South East Ambulance Service paramedics, Surrey Fire & Rescue teams, plus Highways England Traffic Officers are all on site. The road closure is expected to last for hours as investigators work through the crash scene.
Anyone trapped within the closure zones should stay with their vehicles. Traffic Officers are working hard to clear the affected areas safely and quickly.
How to Beat the Gridlock: Diversion Routes Explained
Clockwise Diversion:
- Exit M25 at J5, join A21 southbound
- At Westerham, take the second exit onto A25 westbound
- Pass through Sundridge, Brasted, Westerham, Limpsfield, and Oxted
- At A22 roundabout near Godstone, take the third exit
- Follow A22 northbound towards London
- Rejoin M25 clockwise at J6 roundabout
This route is marked on road signs by a hollow triangle symbol.
Anti-Clockwise Diversion:
- Exit M25 at J6, take third exit at roundabout
- Follow A22 southbound towards East Grinstead
- At A25 roundabout, take first exit
- Drive through Oxted, Limpsfield, Westerham, Brasted, and Sundridge
- At traffic lights with A21, turn left onto A21 northbound
- Continue on A21 to rejoin M25 anti-clockwise
This route is marked on signs with a hollow square symbol.
Additional Traffic Notes
- Londonbound M20 traffic heading for M26 westbound and M25 clockwise should stay on M20 to J1 Swanley, then join M25 clockwise to J5 and follow clockwise diversion.
- M25 anti-clockwise drivers to M26 eastbound and M20 coastbound should use anti-clockwise diversion, then exit at J3 for M20 coastbound.
Drivers in the area should brace for long delays and consider alternative routes or postponing journeys until the closure clears. Congestion is expected not only on the M25 but also on A22 and A25 diversion routes.
