Ruthless Rapist Gets 12 Years for Attacking Lone 18-Year-Old

William John Ormandy, 31, from Merseyside, was handed a jail term of 12 years and three months at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, March 18. The defendant pleaded guilty to rape during a video hearing and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Calculated Attack Near Liverpool Station

The judge slammed Ormandy for “deliberately targeting a lone 18-year-old and isolating her,” pointing to the chilling level of planning behind the assault.

Shortly before 2am on Sunday, February 6, Ormandy approached the victim as she hunted for a taxi near Liverpool Lime Street station. He flattered her, saying, “you’re gorgeous,” and followed her toward the taxi rank.

When she rebuffed his advances, telling him “no” after he demanded a kiss, he forcibly pulled her into a nearby service alleyway. Despite her pleas to be let go, Ormandy raped the young woman before fleeing the scene.

CCTV Evidence and Dramatic Arrest

CCTV footage caught the attacker running away down Pudsey Street. The victim was soon found by three women who helped her get home safely.

A major probe by British Transport Police (BTP) launched immediately. Under pressure, Ormandy handed himself in at St Anne Police Station on February 16. Though he admitted kissing the victim, he denied the rape.

Victim’s Heartbreaking Statement

“Since the incident, I have not left the house unless accompanied by family. I don’t like to be alone and often sleep in the same bed as my sisters. There have been times my mum has held me while I cry. I am awake all night, taking showers to try and cope.

This has wrecked my education. I had dreams of university but failed all my interviews. I had ambitions — now everything feels uncertain.”

Detective Slams Predator

Detective Inspector Granville Sellers called Ormandy “an opportunist sexual predator who preyed on a vulnerable girl and subjected her to a sickening ordeal.”

“He tried to deny the crime but realised the net was closing in. Thankfully, the victim showed immense bravery in reporting him. Crimes like this may be rare on the railway, but they will never be tolerated. This conviction is a clear warning to sexual predators — we will catch you.”
