Flyover Fiasco: Thousands Left Sky-Watching in Vain as RAF Cancels Platinum Jubilee Tribute

Thousands gathered in Southampton expecting a dazzling flypast to honour Her Majesty’s 70-year reign. The Red Arrows were due to blaze across the Hampshire skies at 4.35pm on Sunday, shortly after taking off from Exeter on their way to Buckingham Palace. But Mother Nature had other plans.

RAF Cancels Show Due to Poor Weather

The much-anticipated displays at the English Riviera Airshow in Torbay were cancelled earlier in the day, signalling trouble ahead. Soon after, RAF pilots announced the rest of the day’s flying schedule was called off due to worsening weather conditions.

The crushing news left hundreds disappointed at Mayflower Park, Southampton, where crowds had gathered as part of the Big Platinum Festival. The skies stayed silent, and no jets roared overhead.

Red Arrows to Return for Isle of Wight Festival

Last year, the squadron wowed crowds flying over the New Forest, including Lymington and New Milton, before heading to the Isle of Wight.
