Knife-Wielding Attacker Held After Horrific Assault on Sex Worker in Fulham

Antonino Giagu, 58, from Fulham Palace Road, faced Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, June 1, for sentencing after pleading guilty to attempted rape, causing serious bodily harm, and possession of a bladed weapon.

Knife Threatens Young Woman in Early Morning Attack

In the early hours of February 28, Giagu showed up at a flat where he had agreed to meet a 22-year-old sex worker. Without warning, he pulled her onto a bed and brandished a knife, demanding sex for free. He muffled her cries by covering her mouth with his hands.

Victim’s Quick Thinking Saves the Day

Despite being terrified, the victim managed to grab her phone and pretend to answer a call, begging for help. Luckily, a 41-year-old friend rushed to her aid. Giagu lunged at the man with the knife several times but failed to cause injury.

Attack Ends With Arrest After Dramatic Struggle

The assailant was forced out of the flat and onto the stairs before fleeing the scene. Police responded swiftly and tracked Giagu down. He was charged on March 17 and remains in custody awaiting sentencing.

Detective Praises Courage, Urges Others to Speak Up

“This was a horrific attack on a woman who was alone and vulnerable,” said Detective Constable Lloyd Leech of the Westminster Rape and Serious Sexual Offenses Unit. “Giagu’s presence with a knife shows this was planned.”

“Without the bravery of the victim and her friend, the situation could have been much worse.”

“Sex workers often suffer in silence. We want them to know justice is available to all victims, no matter their background.”

“If you’ve been attacked, please come forward. Our specially trained officers will listen and support you with dignity and respect.”
