Knife Horror in Neasden: Life for Murderer After Brutal Stabbings

Amine Laouar, 21, from NW10, was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and grievous bodily harm with intent at the Old Bailey on July 26.

Just two days later, he was sentenced to life behind bars, with a minimum of 38 years to serve.

Unprovoked Attack Kills Devoted Father

On January 11, 2021, Leon Street, 48, was stabbed five times in a horrifying ambush as he returned from the shop on Neasden Lane North. The attack happened near Press Road, completely unprovoked.

Fatally wounded, Leon collapsed in front of his partner. Despite emergency efforts, he died at the scene.

On the same night, a 32-year-old man was also stabbed nearby but survived his injuries.

Manhunt and DNA Breakthrough

  • Investigators linked the attacks, launching a major hunt.
  • CCTV footage and witness interviews helped build the case.
  • Two knives were recovered, containing DNA profiles not in police databases.
  • DNA from both victims was found on the weapons.

Police then carried out an intense DNA sweep of local residents and scoured crime scenes and nearby homes.

Just six days later, on January 17, a third victim, a 47-year-old man, was stabbed multiple times on the same road but survived.

Laouar Caught and Convicted

CCTV from the final attack identified Laouar, who was arrested at dawn on January 19.

He denied involvement, but police found the weapon in his wardrobe and a jacket stained with Leon’s blood.

His DNA matched the knife evidence. Facing overwhelming proof, he was charged and later convicted for all three attacks.

Family Heartbroken as Justice is Served

Natasha Anodin, Leon’s fiancée: “We planned to marry in July 2022, but instead of celebrating, I sat through his murder trial. The images of that night haunt me daily. I’m still battling PTSD and have so many unanswered questions I’ll never get answers to.”

Rian Anderson, Leon’s daughter: “Dad was always there for us, teaching my brother to ride a motorbike and embarrassing me with loud ABBA music from his van. Losing him has left a pain we’ll carry for life.”

Detective Praises Victims and Community

Det Insp Tom Williams: “Laouar carried out terrifying, random attacks with no provocation. Leon’s death shocked us all. We also commend the bravery of the two survivors and thank Neasden residents for their vital help.”

“Despite overwhelming DNA evidence and CCTV, Laouar denied all involvement and showed no remorse even at sentencing.”

“This lengthy sentence reflects the serious nature of his crimes and I hope it brings some comfort to the victims’ families.”

The judge praised police detectives for their swift and thorough investigation which led to Laouar’s arrest within just nine days.
