Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s Goes Live in Stoke-on-Trent!
Get ready, 80s fans! On Saturday 3 December, Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s show broadcasts live from the Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent. It promises to be a night packed with smash hits from an iconic decade in music history.
Gary Davies Hosts a Retro Blowout
From 8pm to 10pm, Gary Davies will spin classic 80s anthems and two specially curated Mastermixes, live from Stoke. Expect favourite hits from legends like Kate Bush, Madonna, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran.
“The 1980s was the golden age for music. I’ve loved sharing my 80s passion with Radio 2 listeners and now can’t wait to bring the show live to Stoke-on-Trent. So if you’re an 80s fan, put on your statement T-shirt and leg warmers for an unforgettable 80s party!” – Gary Davies
Live Performances from 80s Icons Clare Grogan & Holly Johnson
- Clare Grogan, frontwoman of Altered Images, will perform hits like “Happy Birthday”. She teased: “I’ll be singing, dancing, and swirling my hair around. Hopefully no falling off the stage this time!”
- Holly Johnson, former Frankie Goes to Hollywood frontman, joins too. He said: “After sitting in for Gary last year, I’m buzzing to go live for this special show in Stoke!”
Dress to Impress & Join the Party
Audience members are encouraged to dress in 80s style — think pixie boots, day-glo T-shirts, fingerless gloves, and rara skirts. The party kicks off early with DJ Johnny Kalifornia spinning 80s tunes from 7.15pm. Doors open at 6.30pm.
Tickets are on sale now via www.bbc.co.uk/radio2events. Grab yours for what will be a night to remember!

Celebrate Two 80s Legends from Glasgow and Liverpool
Altered Images, formed in Glasgow in 1979, were pioneers of Scottish pop and are back with their first album of new material in 39 years — Mascara Streakz. After sold-out shows, Clare Grogan brings their magic to Stoke before a homecoming in Glasgow.
Liverpool’s Holly Johnson changed pop forever with Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s 80s anthems like Relax and The Power of Love. Fresh off festival headliner gigs and his live album Unleashed From The Pleasuredome, Holly is now ready to rock Stoke-on-Trent.
