Tragic Toddler Death in Kent Sparks Murder Charges

On 28 November 2020, Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance rushed to a village home amid serious welfare concerns for a one-year-old boy.

The child was taken to hospital but sadly later died.

Arrests Made Immediately

On that very same day, a man and a woman were arrested over the toddler’s death. Both were released on bail as Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched a full investigation.

Murder Charges Confirmed in 2023

Nearly two and a half years later, on 6 March 2023, Jack Benham, 34, of Highstreet Road, Hernhill, and Sian Hedges, 26, of Fillace Park, Yelverton, were formally charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child following Crown Prosecution Service approval.

Both defendants have been remanded in custody and are set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 18 March.
