Sudan Lion Sanctuary on Brink of Disaster Amid Deadly Clashes
Animals Starving as Violence Rages Nearby
The Sudan Animal Rescue Centre’s sanctuary is in grave danger. Home to 25 lions and a host of other animals including gazelles, camels, monkeys, hyenas, and birds, the facility is running low on food and has no electricity. Without power, the safety fences can’t operate, putting the animals at serious risk.
Deadly Conflict Leaves Sanctuary in Crisis
Violent clashes between Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his rival deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo have already claimed over 400 lives and injured thousands. The unrest has pushed one of the world’s poorest nations further into chaos — and the animals are collateral damage.
Urgent Plea to Save the Wildlife
The rescue centre revealed each lion needs five to ten kilograms of meat daily, but food supplies are dwindling fast. On top of this, stolen vehicles, constant fighting near the military base, and a lack of permanent staff have made the sanctuary a dangerous place for its residents.
They are now making a desperate call for help. Without immediate aid, the sanctuary could face a catastrophic tragedy.
“The power outage threatens the safety of the animals. We urgently need intervention from officials or anyone who can help,” the Sudan Animal Rescue Centre warned.
