Ex-Army Dog Handler Takes on UK Puppy Crisis
Gary Brown, a former Army dog handler with 16 years of service, is launching Resolute Dogs — a new Crawley-based dog training business aimed at slashing the shocking number of pups abandoned or put down in UK shelters.
Resolute Dogs Battles Puppy Dumping Epidemic
Every year, 1.5 million puppies are bought across the UK. But shockingly, nearly 40,000 dogs end up dumped in shelters, many facing euthanasia due to preventable behavioural problems. Resolute Dogs offers puppy classes and tailored one-on-one training to stop behavioural issues before they spiral out of control — aiming to get dogs off the shelter list for good.
From Military Discipline to Canine Rescue
Gary’s military background as a Kennel Manager at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst means he knows how to reshape even the rowdiest dogs. He said:
“During my time in the Army, I saw first-hand how discipline and structured training can transform a dog’s behaviour. The same principles apply to pets at home, and I believe that with the right training, we can drastically reduce the number of dogs ending up in shelters.”
Mission: Save Dogs and Educate Owners
Launching in August 2024, Resolute Dogs offers both in-person and online courses focused on early socialisation and tackling behavioural issues before dogs are surrendered. Gary also pledges free training sessions for local shelters to boost adoption chances.
He’s even started a YouTube channel packed with expert advice to help dog owners everywhere.
After leaving the Army, Gary spent a decade as a High Court Enforcement Agent, appearing on Channel 5’s Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away. Despite battling Imposter Syndrome, he invested heavily in dog behaviour qualifications before launching his business.
“Starting a new business has been challenging, but I’m driven to help dogs and their owners. I’ve seen the difference proper training can make, and I’m excited to bring that expertise to the community,” Gary added.
With Resolute Dogs, Gary Brown isn’t just opening a training school — he’s on a mission to save lives, ease shelter overcrowding, and give puppies the best possible start.
