A major section of Colliers Wood High Street (A24) is shut both ways after a serious crash between a bus and a cyclist in the early hours of Thursday. The collision has sparked widespread disruption and ongoing police investigations.
Crash Shuts Down Colliers Wood High Street
Emergency services were called at 1:50am to a collision near the junction with Merton Road. A bus collided with a cyclist, leaving the rider seriously injured and the A24 closed between Tooting High Street and Christchurch Road.
The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and TfL officials rushed to the scene. Officers remained there at 2:05am as they launched a full collision investigation.
Cyclist Hospitalised, Condition Unknown
“Police were called at approximately 01:50hrs on Thursday, 26 June, to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a bus on High Street, Colliers Wood. Officers attended with London Ambulance Service. The cyclist has been taken to hospital. Road closures are in place while our enquiries continue,” a Met Police source confirmed.
The cyclist’s condition remains undisclosed. No arrests have been made so far.
Bus Routes Diverted, Massive Traffic Chaos
The A24 closure has forced several bus routes to divert or terminate early, causing major delays:
- Routes 57, 131, 219 diverted via Meranton Way and Christchurch Road
- Route N155 rerouted via Morden Road and Meranton Way
- Route 131 curtailed to terminate at Colliers Wood
Expect heavy congestion around Merton High Street, Haydons Road and Tooting Broadway. Drivers are advised to use Morden Road (A219) or Tooting High Street as alternatives.
Police Hunt for Witnesses
The Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command is calling for any witnesses or dashcam footage to aid the investigation. The crash site remains sealed for specialist examinations.
