Bike-Bound Pervert Attacks Three Women in Horley
A 26-year-old man dodged jail despite sexually assaulting three women while cycling through Horley. Qais Al-Aswad was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault by touching after a string of terrifying incidents between late May and mid-June.
The attacks happened across separate spots, including outside Dentistree and The Factory Shop. In one shocking moment, Al-Aswad grabbed a woman’s pubic area — then had the audacity to blow her a kiss when she shouted at him.
Suspended Jail Spell and Harsh Curbs
At Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 22 October, Al-Aswad was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He faces 200 hours of unpaid community work, too.
But that’s not all — he’s now slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and forced to wear an electronic tag. Plus, he’s banned from cycling in public unless his bike has GPS tracking to keep tabs on his movements.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery, Promise Tough Action
Detective Inspector Helen Cooper led the probe and saluted the victims for stepping forward. She said:
“I am grateful for the swift action taken by officers who worked to identify Al-Aswad as being responsible for all three offences and ensure he was charged, remanded and brought before the courts. Incidents of this nature are distressing and concerning for our local communities. As a Force, we remain committed to tackling violence against women and girls, and I hope the fact that Al-Aswad was quickly identified, charged and remanded into custody shows that reports are taken seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.”
The victims spoke out in court, describing feeling “unsafe and disgusted” after the attacks.
From Syria to Horley: The Sickening Arrest
Al-Aswad, a Syrian national, was living in asylum accommodation at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Horley when the assaults took place. Police arrested him following an investigation, and he was found guilty at Staines Magistrates’ Court in August.
