Gloucestershire Mum Jailed for 25 Years Imprisonment of Vulnerable Woman
Mandy Wixon, a mother-of-10 from Tewkesbury, has been found guilty of imprisoning a vulnerable woman known only as K for 25 years. The shocking case uncovered appalling abuse and squalor inside Wixon’s home.
Horrific Abuse Behind Closed Doors
At Gloucester Crown Court, Wixon was convicted of false imprisonment, forced labour, and assault causing actual bodily harm. K, who has learning difficulties, was handed to Wixon as a teenager through a distant family link back in 1996.
Judge Ian Lawrie described the case as “Dickensian” after hearing how K was forced to live in a filthy, overcrowded house with up to 13 occupants. She survived on scraps and endured terrifying treatment, including:
- Washing-up liquid poured down her throat
- Bleach thrown on her face, leaving scars
- Repeated head shaving
- Beatings with a broom handle causing lost teeth
K’s “room” was little more than a prison cell. Her feet were calloused from relentless floor scrubbing, and she suffered from neglected dental care.
Rescue After 25 Years of Captivity
Police finally freed K on 15 March 2021 after Wixon’s own son raised concerns. Officers found the terrified woman with her head down. She confided, “I don’t want to be here. I don’t feel safe. Mandy hits me all the time. I don’t like it.”
Medical exams revealed K was severely malnourished with untreated infections. She had been washing secretly at night and was trapped, never leaving the house for decades.
Prosecutor Sam Jones called K’s disappearance from public life a “black hole,” with no records of her ever leaving.
Justice Served, Hope for a New Life
Wixon was granted conditional bail ahead of her sentencing hearing. She denied all charges, retorting when called a “monster,” “Say what you think.”
Thankfully, K now lives with a foster family, attends college, and has even enjoyed holidays abroad. Detective Constable Emma Jackson said K is “flourishing” and living a healthy, happy life.
Senior prosecutor Laura Burgess added, “The progress she has made since leaving this oppressive environment is a testament to her strength. We hope justice brings her some comfort as she rebuilds her life.”
Gloucestershire Police detectives Alex Pockett and Emma Jackson led the investigation.
