A jury has convicted Robert Kovacs, 38, of attempted murder after a homemade bomb was discovered on a driveway in Borehamwood last August.
Bomb Found Under Car in Quiet Hertfordshire Town
The device was spotted underneath a vehicle parked at a home on Cowley Hill, sparking emergency evacuations on 16 August 2025. Specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers rushed to the scene to safely dismantle the potentially deadly device.

Kovacs, from Tenby Road, Edgware, denied all allegations but was found guilty on Tuesday 3 March. He remains in custody ahead of sentencing on 5 May.
Detective Praises Courage and Calls Plot ‘Cruel and Calculated’
“This was a cruel, calculated and extremely serious crime,” said Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor. “Kovacs went to great lengths to plan an act that could have had catastrophic consequences for the intended victim and innocent members of the public living nearby.”
She thanked local residents for their patience during the evacuation and commended officers for their bravery in protecting the community.
