Tragic Death at Romford Station
Romford station was closed in both directions on March 5 after a person was hit by a train and died at the scene. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a casualty on the tracks between Ilford and Shenfield just before 4 pm.
Bus Routes Disrupted
The accident shut down numerous bus routes, including 5, 86, 103, 165, 174, 175, 193, 247, 248, 252, 294, 370, 499, 66, 128, 296, 347, 365, 375, 496, and 498 as Romford station remained closed for clean-up and investigation.
Police Statement and Investigation
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at 3.58pm today (5 March) at Romford Railway Station. Officers and paramedics attended, and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The station cleared and reopened at 4:32pm following the tragic incident. Passengers are advised to check for updates and alternative transport arrangements.
