Resident doctors at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are set to strike from 7am on Tuesday, April 7th, until 7am on Monday, April 13th. The action threatens to disrupt essential services across Sussex hospitals.
Emergency Care Will Still Run – But Only for Life-Threatening Cases
NHS chiefs are urging the public to reserve A&E and 999 services strictly for emergencies. “Emergency care will be prioritised,” they said, emphasising that only life-threatening cases should use these critical services during the strike period.
Minor Injuries? Don’t Head to Hospital – Use Walk-In Centres Instead
Patients with minor issues like sprains, suspected broken bones, cuts, and other minor injuries are advised to visit walk-in centres, urgent treatment centres, or minor injuries units. Many of these centres stay open later to ease pressure on hospital A&Es.
Some Appointments May Be Delayed – But Keep Attending Unless Told Otherwise
Some planned clinics and appointments may be affected by the strike. However, patients should attend as scheduled unless the hospital contacts them directly. Health officials have thanked the public for their understanding and urged everyone to choose the right service for their care.
