Lee Milne has been handed an eight-year jail sentence for the death of his wife, Kimberly Milne, who tragically died after plunging from a motorway bridge in Dundee in July 2023. The 28-year-old was hit by multiple vehicles on the A90, sparking Scotland’s first-ever culpable homicide prosecution linked to such a case.

Horrific Abuse Led to Tragic Death

Kimberly was “clearly terrified” of Milne, 40, testified police, as she took desperate action to escape his abuse. The court heard how Milne subjected her to relentless domestic violence over 18 months, including choking, hair-pulling, hitting, and terrifying verbal assaults.

  • Milne was also convicted of further domestic abuse at multiple Dundee homes.
  • Kimberly’s misery escalated before her death, with Milne’s violence intensifying after discovering messages from other men on her phone.
  • Witnesses described Kimberly as “cowering” and “too frightened” as Milne aggressively confronted her on the night she died.

Shock Details from Court

Lady Drummond, the judge, said Kimberly was driven to despair, prompting her fatal leap from the bridge. She voiced her sympathy for the family, calling Kimberly “one-in-a-million” and a “much-loved daughter, sister and aunt” whose loss devastated them all.

“Nothing I can say or do today will bring her back and ease their grief.”

The couple met in late 2021 and tied the knot in September 2022. Prosecutors exposed a pattern of abuse that began early on. A chilling moment was revealed when Kimberly told police Milne checked her phone, flew into a rage and shouted at her. On the night of Kimberly’s death, CCTV footage showed her dodging Milne as he yelled and drove aggressively towards her. The jury saw her trembling and trying to avoid him in public.

Family Reacts as Milne Faces Justice

Kimberly’s mother, Lynne Bruce, told the court how Milne arrived at her house the morning after Kimberly’s death, trying to explain the tragic scene. According to Lynne, Milne claimed Kimberly had crashed her car, then said she fled to the bridge. He admitted chasing her but said she shook her head before jumping. Detective Chief Inspector Craig Kelly slammed Milne as a “violent bully” who showed no remorse and tried to blame Kimberly for her own plight. He added, “Witness testimony and CCTV evidence painted a picture of quite horrendous domestic abuse.” Milne, who was already on the sex offenders’ register following a 2024 conviction for sexually assaulting two young boys, will also be monitored for three years after his release. This case highlights the devastating impact of domestic abuse and the lengths victims may go to escape their tormentors.
