Burglar Busted: Darren Rogers Jailed for Serial Break-Ins

Darren Rogers, 45, has been locked up for three years after confessing to multiple burglaries, fraud, and handling stolen goods at Canterbury Crown Court earlier this year.

Crime Spree Unfolded Over Four Days

Rogers, once a resident of Cavell Way, Sittingbourne, struck repeatedly in January. The East Kent CID launched the probe after a Whitstable woman spotted him snooping around her home on doorbell camera footage on 19 January. When confronted, Rogers fled the scene.

The following day, he broke into Sheerness Fire Station, stealing a scooter and a firefighter’s bank card – which he later used at a nearby shop. On 22 January, he broke into a house in Minster-on-Sea through a kitchen window but fled when an alarm sounded.

Caught on CCTV, Thief’s Haul Recovered

The police identified Rogers from CCTV images and nabbed him that evening. Stolen items, including the scooter and jewellery from another burglary in Whitstable, were recovered at his home.

Detective Constable Matthew Burridge said, “Rogers is a persistent offender who committed these five offences in the space of just four days. I am pleased our investigation has seen him brought to justice, that stolen items have been returned to their owners and Rogers has been removed from the streets of Kent.”

Doorbell Cameras Play a Key Role in Busting Burglar

This case highlights how vital doorbell and CCTV cameras are in catching criminals and aiding investigations. Authorities urge residents to beef up home security to prevent similar crimes.
