A chilling Cambridgeshire murder is back in the spotlight in a new two-part Channel 4 special of 24 Hours in Police Custody, airing next week.

Detectives Dig Deep into 2013 Wisbech Killing

The episodes, titled “The Last Roll of the Dice”, follow the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit as they revisit the brutal 2013 slaying of 86-year-old Una Crown. The retired postmistress was found stabbed in her Wisbech bungalow, her clothes set on fire in a horrific attempt to hide evidence.

Forensics Crack Breakthrough After a Decade

Using cutting-edge forensic science, the team uncovered male DNA beneath Mrs Crown’s fingernails—preserved at the scene all these years. The DNA matched local man David Newton, living nearby.   Police ruled out other family members through exhaustive enquiries, piecing together a case that finally brought justice.

Convicted Killer Jailed for Life

David Newton, now in his 70s, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years in prison last February. Mr Justice Neil Garnham condemned the attack as “ferocious and sustained” on a “defenceless old lady in her own home.” Tune in to Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday, 13 and Tuesday, 14 April to watch this gripping cold case unravel.
