Firefighters raced to a thatched cottage in Pett Level in the early hours of Saturday morning after a fire tore through the property.

Massive Fire Response in Cliff End Lane

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at 5.02am on April 18. Within 50 minutes, four fire engines and two officers were battling the flames using three main jets, pumping gear, and nearby hydrants.

Smoke Blankets Area, Residents Warned

Locals were urged to keep windows and doors shut as thick smoke drifted around the neighbourhood. Motorists were also told to steer clear of the area to avoid danger and disruption.

Firefighters Gain Ground, No Injuries Reported

The fire service called in extra support, including a water carrier, a dual-purpose truck from Uckfield, and an additional officer. By 7am, they had made solid progress and confirmed no casualties. By 8am, the blaze was mostly under control, allowing crews to scale back to two engines while they tackled stubborn hotspots. Emergency services continue to advise avoiding the area while firefighters work to fully extinguish the fire. More updates expected soon.
