A 41-year-old Swansea man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after a jury convicted him of multiple sexual offences. Abdul Shahid, from Sketty, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration following an attack in Swansea city centre. Shahid had pretended to be an Uber driver and took his victim to a remote car park where the crimes took place.

Deceptive Approach

Shahid gained the victim’s trust by posing as an Uber driver, picking her up in Swansea city centre. Instead of driving to her intended destination, he took isolated, dark roads, enabling the attack.

Jury Delivers Verdict

Despite Shahid’s not guilty pleas, the jury found him guilty of two rapes and assault by penetration after hearing the evidence presented in court.

Harsh Prison Sentence

The court handed Shahid an 18-year prison sentence, reflecting the severity of his crimes and serving as a stern warning against such offences in Swansea and beyond.
