West Midlands Police are investigating a suspected break-in at a Wolverhampton home on Mason Street following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of two young boys, aged one and three, on Friday evening. The blaze, which sparked a major emergency response at around 8.30pm, left the property badly damaged. Firefighters rescued two children from the scene, who later died despite urgent medical treatment. A woman and two other children were outside the house when crews arrived and did not require hospital care.
Suspicious Break-in Investigation
Detectives believe the property was forcibly entered overnight after the fire. It remains unclear if anything was stolen. Police are conducting house-to-house inquiries, reviewing CCTV, and carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.
Fire Death Enquiries
West Midlands Police confirmed their investigation into the cause of the fire has concluded, but inquiries into the boys’ deaths remain ongoing. Specialist officers are leading the probe to establish all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Arrest And Bail Update
A woman in her 30s was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of causing or allowing the deaths of the children. She was released on bail as investigations continue.
Police Appeal For Information
Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake from the public protection unit said: “This is a truly tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with those who loved the children.” She urged anyone with information to contact the police via 101, quoting incident number 899.
