A 65-year-old man from Gosport has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, plus an additional five-year extended license, after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences against a child under 10. Stephen Street of Aspengrove was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court following a nine-day trial of offences committed between 2021 and 2024 at a residence in the town.

Multiple Charges Confirmed

  • Seven counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
  • One count of sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13
  • One count of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 13
  • One count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child
  • One count of sexual communication with a child
  • Admitted offences of possession and making indecent images of children
  • Possession of extreme pornographic images

Judge Labels Offender Dangerous

At sentencing on 6 May, Judge HHJ Newton-Price KC described Street as a “dangerous offender” who “abused, damaged and corrupted” the victim, exploiting her “solely for his own pleasure.” The court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order alongside the custodial sentence.

Investigating Officer DC David Sloan from the Eastern Area Child Abuse Investigation Team commended the victim’s bravery in reporting her three-year ordeal. He said her courage was instrumental in securing justice and delivering a substantial sentence.
