Two Portsmouth men have been jailed after police caught them supplying cocaine and cannabis in January 2024. Officers saw 26-year-old Bledar Canaj make a drug deal on Arundel Street before stopping a taxi he boarded. Searches recovered cocaine, cannabis, and cash on Canaj’s and at his flat on Paine Road.
Police Bust On Arundel Street
On 13 January, police witnessed Canaj complete a drug deal then enter a taxi. A swift stop of the vehicle revealed two bags of cocaine and cannabis, alongside cash found on him, preventing further sales.
Cash And Drugs Seized
Officers searched Canaj’s flat, discovering around £2,500 in cash and more cannabis. During the operation, 34-year-old Alex Xhediku arrived and was arrested. Searches of his Posbrooke Road home uncovered £143,040 in cash split between two bags and 600g of cocaine hidden in the loft.
Convictions And Sentences
Both men pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis plus possession of criminal property. On 29 May, Xhediku was sentenced to 45 months imprisonment at Portsmouth Crown Court. Canaj, who was on bail, failed to appear for sentencing and faces separate proceedings.
Ongoing Police Work
Portsmouth police continue targeting drug networks to disrupt supply in the city. Authorities urge the public to report any drug-related information to help combat crime locally.
