Following incidents shared on social media, officers launched a fresh appeal: “We’re asking the public to help identify those involved,” said a police spokesperson. The force is keen to crack down on any further crimes linked to the demonstration.
Violence and Unusual Arrests Amid Protest
- Two were arrested for assaulting emergency workers after trying to bust through a police cordon.
- One man in Whitehall was nabbed for wearing what looked like a parachute and allegedly showing support for a banned organisation.
The arrest tally climbed as the day carried on:
- 3 arrested for assaulting emergency workers
- 1 arrested for backing a proscribed group
- 3 for assault
- 7 for public order offences, including 3 racially aggravated
- 1 for breaching Public Order Act conditions
- 2 for unspecified offences
Protest Mostly Peaceful Despite Chaos
Despite the hiccups, police praised the crowd for largely sticking to the designated route. Officers maintained a tight cordon to prevent any breakaway groups.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which organised the event, has yet to comment on the arrests or police enquiries.
Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Out
With investigations ongoing, the Met is urging anyone with info on possible offences from Saturday’s protest to come forward immediately.
