Tragic Peckham Park Stabbing: Victim Named as Kalabe Legesse
For the first time, the man fatally stabbed in Peckham Rye Park has been identified. Kalabe Legesse, 29, died from a stab wound to the heart while simply sitting in the south London park last Friday night.
Brutal Attack in Peckham Rye Park
The chilling incident happened on Friday, December 30. Kalabe was “minding his own business” near a café off Strakers Road when two suspects launched a savage, random attack. Police say the victims suffered serious wounds and was found at 8:24pm.
Emergency services raced to the scene, but despite desperate efforts by London Ambulance and Air Ambulance crews, Kalabe tragically died there, just 30 minutes later.
Police Hunt Two Suspects on Bikes
The Metropolitan Police have launched a full investigation into what they described as a “brutal and senseless attack.” Detectives believe two men fled the scene on pedal bikes, heading towards Peckham Rye.
“Kalabe’s family and friends are devastated by his death after this horrific attack,” said Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin. “We are asking anyone around the park at 8pm, especially near the café and playground, to come forward.”
The family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

Shockwaves from the stabbing led to the cancellation of a planned New Year’s Eve run in Peckham Rye Park. Police urge witnesses or anyone with information to dial 101, quoting reference 6165/30Dec22.
