Police Van Torched in Middlesbrough – Frontline Heroes Targeted
A Cleveland Police emergency response van was set ablaze and destroyed on Doxford Walk, Middlesbrough, last night.
Thankfully, no one was hurt. The two officers assigned to the van were away at a nearby address when the fire broke out.
Fire Brigade Scrambles to Scene
A local street warden spotted the blaze around 7.10pm and called for help. Cleveland Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and swiftly extinguished the flames.
Assistant Chief Condemns “Disgusting” Attack
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Graham slammed the arson as “shocking and disgusting”. He said:
“This is a disgusting attack on an emergency services vehicle, which now has to be taken off the road, impacting the service we provide to the public and costing thousands.”
“Our officers and staff are leaving their families to protect the public on the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are just as worried as everyone else and are adapting their lives to keep us all safe.”
“I’m relieved no one was injured, but it’s shocking that anyone would stoop this low. We urge the community to help us find those responsible for this cowardly arson.”
Police Hunt Arsonists with CCTV Appeal
Detectives are canvassing local residents and reviewing CCTV footage. They are asking anyone with private cameras or dashcam clips to come forward.
