Off-Duty Cop Attacked in Broad Daylight in Swindon
An off-duty Wiltshire Police officer was assaulted in Swindon this evening, sending shockwaves through the community.
Blow to the Head in Cheney Manor Road
The attack happened around 5:40pm on Cheney Manor Road. A man suddenly approached and struck the officer over the head with an unknown object. Thankfully, the officer did not require hospital treatment.
Massive Police Hunt Underway
Armed officers and a police helicopter swarmed the area, conducting extensive searches. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Superintendent Chris Chammings said: “Although our enquiries are at a very early stage, this appears to have been a targeted attack on a police officer.
“Thankfully, the officer involved does not appear to be seriously injured, but it is frightening to think how this could have easily had a very different outcome.”
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the assault, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident, to contact police urgently.”
