Armed Police Swarm Canterbury After Woman Held ‘Captive’ Call

Armed officers stormed Canterbury this morning after a frantic 999 call reported a woman being held captive in a Longport property. Police swooped on the scene at 11:15am, backed by a helicopter keeping watch from above.

Monastery Street Lockdown Sparks Student Alert

The alarming report came from a property on Monastery Street, right next to the Royal Inn Chinese restaurant. Concerned that a weapon might be involved, officers, including armed units, rushed in to assess the situation.

Nearby Canterbury College put its students on high alert, instructing them to stay on campus while police investigated the tense standoff.

Woman Found Safe – No Weapon Discovered, No Arrests Made

A Kent Police spokesperson confirmed: “Officers were called at 11.15am over concern for a woman in Longport. Armed officers and a police helicopter attended due to fears a weapon might be present.”

“A woman was safely located. Officers are still making enquiries, but no weapons have been found.”

So far, no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
