Terrifying Armed Raid in East Dulwich: Victim Tied Up and Beaten

Police were called just after 3.30pm on Wednesday, 23 September, to a terrifying home invasion on Whateley Road, East Dulwich. A man in his 50s was alone in his living room when he heard footsteps on the stairs. Thinking it was his partner, he was caught completely off guard.

Two Masked Men Demand Cash and Attack Victim

Two unknown men suddenly appeared—one wielding a firearm. They demanded money before bashing the man over the head with the weapon. Attempts to fire the gun failed repeatedly, leading officers to suspect it was an imitation.

The victim fought back but was quickly overpowered. The attackers bound his wrists and ankles with tape and shoved him into the downstairs toilet. They then conducted a messy search, grabbing cash, electrical goods, and jewellery before fleeing.

Suspects Descriptions and Police Appeal

  • One suspect: ‘Middle Eastern European’, slim build, late teens or early twenties, dark brown skin, black hair and beard, thin pointed nose. Hardly spoke English, repeatedly saying “money, money, money”.
  • Other suspect: Asian male, possibly South-East Asian, stockier build, around 5ft 10ins tall, short black hair, wearing blue latex gloves. Police have released an e-fit image.

PC Daisy Puplett of the Central South Command Unit is leading the investigation. She said:

“The victim was left terrified following this traumatic incident. We urge anyone who saw two suspicious males in the area at that time to come forward. We’re doing everything we can to catch those responsible.”
