Huge Pine Tree Crash Shuts Hampshire School and Cemetery
Tree Tragedy Sparks Major School Disruption
A massive pine tree has come crashing down across a pathway at Fair Oak Cemetery on Botleigh Road, causing chaos for Wyvern School and locals. The fallen tree smashed fencing and created a serious safety hazard for students, staff, and the public.
In response, Fair Oak Cemetery and the footpath beside Wyvern School have been shut indefinitely while crews assess the risk from other aging trees in the area.
Security Stakes Out After Theft Fears
With dozens of bicycles stranded behind the barricades, overnight security patrols have been brought in to guard the school grounds. Officials fear thieves may target the parked pushbikes while students wait for the area to be declared safe.
“Fair Oak Cemetery and the footpath by Wyvern School are closed until further notice. A large tree has fallen and is being removed. Until we confirm the safety of the other trees, both will remain shut. Sorry for any inconvenience,” said the Fair Oak and Horton Heath parish council park ranger.
School Tennis Courts Also Out of Action
Wyvern School took to Facebook to announce all tennis courts, including the grey courts, remain closed following the tree fall. Engineers are on site assessing the remaining trees before the courts and paths can safely reopen.
“Students are currently unable to access their bikes. Once the tree is removed and the area secured, they will be able to retrieve them,” a school insider revealed.
The community waits while crews clear the mess and safety checks continue, hoping for a swift return to normal.
