Heroic Rope Rescue After Pensioner Falls in Ramsgate Flat
A dramatic rescue unfolded in Ramsgate as emergency crews lowered a pensioner down from a flat in a rope stretcher after she suffered a suspected broken foot in a nasty fall.
Narrow Stairs Block Ambulance Access
The incident happened just after 1pm on Tuesday at a property on Bellvue Road. The elderly woman called 999 for help after injuring her foot.
Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance arrived swiftly but were unable to navigate the narrow staircase to move her out safely. They urgently called in Kent Fire and Rescue for backup.
Firefighters Break In and Set Up Rope Rescue
Two fire engines and a specialist technical rescue team raced to the scene. Firefighters used breaking-in gear to gain access to the flat above.
The rescue crew then rigged up a pulley system to carefully lower the injured woman down the building’s exterior on a stretcher.
“The rope rescue team acted quickly to get her safely to the ground and into waiting paramedics,” a Kent Fire spokesperson said.
Pensioner Rushed to Hospital for Treatment
Once on solid ground, the woman was rushed to hospital for treatment of her suspected broken foot.
Kent Fire and Rescue and South East Coast Ambulance have been contacted for further comment on the incident.
