First Picture Released: Man Stabbed to Death at Essex Village Pub
A murder probe is underway after a brutal stabbing left one man dead and another injured outside a pub in Writtle, Essex.
Tragic Night at Rose and Crown Pub
On Friday evening, police were called to The Rose and Crown on The Green, Writtle, following reports of two men stabbed in the pub’s smoking area. One victim, 21-year-old Liam Taylor, was named locally and sadly died at the scene. The other man was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A source close to the investigation revealed Liam’s stabbing was linked to a bitter dispute over drugs and a local gang feud involving a snitch.
Four Men Arrested as Murder Investigation Intensifies
Officers have arrested four men suspected of murder and taken them in for questioning. The road remains closed as forensic teams comb the scene for evidence.
Police urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 1107 of Friday 31 January.

Residents who have lived in Writtle for decades expressed disbelief at the violence. One local business owner said, “I’m rather shocked tonight. Never seen any bother at all at that pub in my 23 years being based here.”
A local woman added, “It’s always been such a lovely peaceful village – hopefully it’s a one-off occurrence.”
Police continue their investigation as the village comes to terms with a tragic night of violence.
