Parents Beware! Hobbycraft Recalls Craft Set Over Deadly Asbestos Fears

Hobbycraft has urgently pulled its Giant Box of Craft from shelves after deadly asbestos was found lurking in the sand vials. The product code to watch out for is 6686021000.

Asbestos Discovered in Children’s Craft Sand

The hazardous fibres were uncovered during routine lab testing. Hobbycraft warns the tiny asbestos particles pose serious health risks, especially to kids. Asbestos is banned across the UK because even brief exposure can cause deadly lung diseases over time.

While these illnesses usually develop after long-term contact, Hobbycraft isn’t taking any chances. The recall is in line with the Strict General Product Safety Regulations of 2005 to keep families safe.

What To Do If You’ve Got This Craft Set

  • Stop using the set immediately.
  • If the sand vials are unopened, seal them inside a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-tape shut, label clearly, and keep away from children.
  • If the sand has been opened, wipe down surfaces carefully with a wet cloth while wearing gloves and a mask to avoid spreading dust.
  • Dispose of used gloves, masks, cloths, and sand in double bags securely.
  • Keep kids and others out of the area until fully cleaned.

How to Claim a Refund

Return your sand vials to any Hobbycraft store for a full refund. Can’t get to a shop? Follow the above safety steps, then call Hobbycraft to organise your refund.
