Massive Blaze Hits Magic Cottage Charity Shop in Abergavenny
Over 100 firefighters battled a huge fire that tore through the Magic Cottage charity shop in Abergavenny, Wales, on Sunday night. The blaze erupted on Frogmore Street, forcing nearby residents to evacuate as thick smoke billowed across the area.
Emergency Services Mobilised
Gwent Police and 14 fire crews rushed to the scene around 8:30pm. Authorities quickly set up a cordon, evacuated homes as a precaution, and opened Abergavenny Leisure Centre as a temporary shelter for displaced residents. Officials urged locals to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation.

Conservative councillor Richard John described the incident as “horrendous” and “heartbreaking.” Posting on social media, he said:
“Thoughts with all those affected by the horrendous fire in Abergavenny town centre tonight. It must be heartbreaking. Thanks to the emergency services and hoping no one is hurt.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters worked through the night to control the blaze, with an investigation expected once the flames are fully out. Police are asking anyone with information or footage to come forward.
