Tragedy at River Wey: Man Dies After Diving In, Fails to Resurface

Shock and sadness struck Guildford on Tuesday evening after a man drowned in the River Wey near the Rowbarge pub.

Just before 6pm on 28 May, officers arrived at the scene following urgent ambulance reports.

Witnesses said a man dived into the river but never came back up. Rescuers launched an intense search operation, deploying Surrey Search and Rescue, a dive team, police, and paramedics.

Body Found, Identity Known but Not Confirmed Publicly

Tragically, a man’s body was recovered from the water. While formal identification is pending, police have informed the next of kin.

Incident Treated as Unexplained but No Suspicious Activity

Authorities say the death is being treated as unexplained. However, there is no current evidence of third-party involvement.

A file will now be prepared and sent to the coroner as investigations continue.
