Man Shot Dead in Pre-Planned Police Operation on M62, Huddersfield

A man died tonight after being shot during a police operation on the M62 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The incident happened at around 6pm near Junction 24, police confirmed.

Firearm Discharged in Pre-Planned Raid

West Yorkshire Police said the shooting occurred during a pre-planned policing operation. A spokeswoman stated: “Around 6pm this evening (Tuesday January 2), during a pre-planned policing operation near the M62, a police firearm was discharged and a man has died.”

M62 Slip Roads Closed After Incident

The slip roads on both eastbound and westbound sides at Junction 24 remain shut as officers investigate. The closure caused traffic disruption during the evening rush.

Independent Police Complaints Commission Steps In

An immediate referral was made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), who are now on scene. West Yorkshire Police say they are fully cooperating with the probe.
