Met Police in Hot Water Over Swastika Row at London Palestine Rally
The Metropolitan Police faced fierce criticism after a pro-Palestine march in central London turned tense. Shocking footage, shared by a witness named Emily, shows a fiery confrontation between two women and officers over a swastika visibly displayed by another protester.
Swastika Sparks Outrage and Confusion
In the clip, one woman demands the police act against the offensive symbol, linking it to the Nazi party’s hateful reign. The officers tread carefully, with one visibly flustered, admitting he can’t predict how others interpret the swastika. Rather than taking immediate action, he tells the woman to seek help from another officer down the road, leaving the situation unresolved.
Met Police Respond to Growing Backlash
“This video clip is a short excerpt of what was a 10-minute conversation with an officer,” the Met said in a statement. “During the full conversation, the officer confirmed the individual displaying the placard had already been arrested for a public order offence.”
“The officer offered to send additional officers to accompany the woman and identify other protestors she was concerned about. However, after consulting his supervisor, the woman left before support arrived.”
The Met insists they tried to resolve the issue on the spot but were hampered by the evolving crowd dynamics and the woman’s departure.
