Motorcyclist Dies in Horror Crash on Eastern Road, Portsmouth
A 52-year-old man from Gosport tragically lost his life following a smash between his scooter and a council worker’s pickup truck on Eastern Road, Portsmouth, at the crack of dawn.
Early Morning Collision Shuts Down Busy Road
The fatal crash happened just after 6.30am on 26th October, forcing Eastern Road to close both ways for over four hours during the morning rush. Emergency services rushed to the scene, sending an ambulance, a rapid response paramedic, and the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance—though the air crew was stood down shortly after.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the motorcyclist died from his injuries in hospital.
Call for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Inspector Darren Ord from Hampshire Constabulary’s Eastern Division Roads Policing unit urged witnesses to come forward. “I would appeal to drivers who may have witnessed the collision between the yellow truck and scooter who have not yet made themselves known to us to contact us,” he said.
Inspector Ord added, “We are particularly interested in hearing from drivers who saw the vehicles before the collision and their manner of driving. If anyone has caught the incident on dashcam, please get in touch.”
Police Investigate Tragic Crash
Police remain on scene conducting a thorough investigation. The council pickup and white scooter are both involved in the collision that has rocked the local community.
A South Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to a medical emergency in East Shore Road just after 6.30am. We sent an ambulance and rapid response paramedic.”
