Government Hits Target with 20,000 New Police Officers
The Government has smashed its promise to recruit 20,000 extra police officers nationwide by March 2023. Launched in 2019, the Police Uplift Programme is already making a huge impact on the streets.
Nottinghamshire Police Overdeliver on Numbers
Nottinghamshire Police didn’t just meet their recruitment goal — they smashed it. The force welcomed 418 new officers, beating their target of 357. This brings their total officer count to 2,439 — the highest it’s been in over ten years.
Teams Behind the Recruitment Triumph Win Big
The Learning & Development and recruitment teams won the coveted One Team award at the Nottinghamshire Police Force Awards on 25 April. They were praised for their “unprecedented” recruitment push that saw over 850 officers trained between 2019 and 2022, despite pandemic hurdles.
“This has been an unprecedented period of recruitment that has seen a huge influx of new officers to the streets of Nottinghamshire,” said Gillian Holder, chief finance officer for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
“It means greater visibility of officers across all areas of the county and an even better service for the public.”
Chief Constable Celebrates Early Success and Diversity Drive
Chief Constable Kate Meynell praised the teams for reaching targets a whole year early. She said the rise in officer numbers is “great news for our local communities” and pledged to keep pushing for a force that truly reflects Nottinghamshire’s diverse population.
“A lot of this success was achieved during Covid, and I would again like to thank everyone who has made this possible,” she added.
