Norwich Airport Grounded After Light Plane Crash-Landing
Norwich Airport slammed shut this afternoon after a light aircraft’s undercarriage gave way on landing. Flights are cancelled and diverted as emergency crews rush the scene.
Emergency Response After Undercarriage Collapse
The drama unfolded at around 1.48pm when the small plane, carrying two people, diverted to Norwich with a reported landing gear fault. The undercarriage collapsed as it touched down.
Firefighters and ambulance crews were on site immediately. Thankfully, both onboard were shaken but unhurt and got out safely.
“At 1.48pm today, a light aircraft with two people on board diverted to Norwich Airport with a reported undercarriage issue. Upon landing, the undercarriage collapsed. Fire and ambulance services attended and the two people were removed from the aircraft without injury,” a Norwich Airport spokesperson said.
Flight Chaos as Runway Remains Closed
The runway was shut down straight away and will stay closed until at least 5pm for recovery operations. The disruption is hitting holidaymakers and business travellers hard this busy weekend.
- A TUI flight from Tenerife was diverted to London Stansted.
- KLM cancelled its 2.05pm flight to Amsterdam.
