Shopkeeper Assaulted in St Leonards After Tackling Suspected Thief

Police are hunting witnesses after a shopkeeper was attacked while trying to stop a suspected shoplifter in St Leonards.

Violent Confrontation on Kings Road

The shop worker blocked a young man suspected of shoplifting from leaving a store on Kings Road. The suspect then assaulted the staff member, leaving a facial injury that needed stitches.

Racial Abuse in Second Shop

The suspect didn’t stop there. He walked into a nearby shop on 1 Road, where he was again challenged for shoplifting. Reports say he then racially abused the shopkeeper.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

  • Suspect described as a young man wearing grey trousers, a grey top, and a black hooded jumper.
  • Incident happened between 1pm and 2pm on 14 January.
  • Police want anyone who saw the incident or has CCTV, mobile, or dash cam footage to get in touch.
