Police Car Rolls Into House After Handbrake Fails During Foot Chase
A Northumbria Police patrol car caused chaos on Dean Road, South Shields, when its handbrake gave out mid-foot chase. The marked vehicle rolled backwards, crashing into the wall of a nearby house just as officers sprinted after a suspect.
Handbrake Blunder Sparks Crash
Officers had just jumped out to chase the suspect on foot when the car unexpectedly slipped backwards. The patrol vehicle smashed into a residential property’s wall. Luckily, police confirmed there was no damage to the wall and only minor scuffs to the vehicle.
Suspect Caught Despite the Drama
Even with the dramatic car mishap, police quickly caught and arrested the suspect. A Northumbria Police spokesperson assured the public that all proper procedures were followed and the property owner contacted to sort out the incident.
“No damage caused to the wall of the property. Very minor damage caused to the marked police vehicle. All necessary processes have been followed, and remedial action with the property owner has been addressed,” the spokesperson said.
